Access statement
Introduction
We aim to cater for the needs of all visitors in our home based 7 bedroom bed and breakfast. The following statement is a summary of our provision. If you have any specific questions please feel free to call us and we will endeavour to help.
Pre-Arrival
- There is a bus stop two blocks away and there is a frequent bus service to and from the city and university.
- There are two train stations servicing Canterbury, Canterbury West is 5-7 minute walk away and Canterbury East is a 5 minute ride by car/taxi or 15-20 minute walk.
- There are local taxi services that have accessible taxis if required, we can make a booking for you.
- Brochures and menus can be provided in large print by prior arrangement

Arrival & Car Parking Facilities
- On Arrival to the property there is an open access area and drive, these are open 24 hours and covered by CCTV cameras.
- No marked parking bays but there is parking for five cars.
- The surface is level, flat with brick paviers.
- We can assist guests with luggage
- The city is a 10 minutes walk from the Bed and Breakfast
Main Entrance & Reception
- The front door has three steps 12cms, 18cms and 10cms high respectively.
- The front door is on a yale lock but there is a bell which is accessible for most heights.
- The door is 90cm wide
- On entry into our home there is a hallway 110cmx7 metres
- There is fitted carpet flooring throughout the ground floor
Public Areas - General (Internal)
- Our corridor to the ground floor bedroom and breakfast room is 110cm wide
- Corridors have a good colour contrast and are well lit
- The covering on all floors is short pile carpet
- The breakfast room and one bedroom are on the ground floor.
- There are 13 stairs to a landing followed by a further 3 stairs to two first floor bedrooms, or two to four first floor bedrooms and four to the WC.
- The stairs are 17cm high, 23cm deep, 75cm wide

Restaurant / Dining Room Bar & Lounges, Take Away & Cafe
- Breakfast is served in the breakfast room on the ground floor. There is one step.
- Furniture is flexible and can be moved on request.
- Tables have underspace of 67cm high by 135cm wide and height of 73cm (legs on each corner).
- Menus can be provided in large print by prior arrangement
- We play background music in the breakfast room of the B&B

- There are 7 bedrooms, one on the ground floor and six on the first floor.
Ground floor bedroom (large room)
- There is one step to the bedroom in the main hallway
- Door width is 76cm wide
- This is a queen-sized four-poster bedroom
- At least 140cm routes within the bedroom e.g. to the side of beds, between beds and dressing table, therefore allowing for left or right transfer to beds in any combination
- Furniture is moveable on request
- Beds are 50cm high
- Television with remote control and teletext
- There is a put-u-up bed in the room.
- Three armchairs are provided in the room
- There is an ensuite bath and shower room (see below for details) with tiled floor

First floor bedrooms

- There is approximately 70cm between the wall and each side of the bed

- The shower is located inside the corner bath

- The basin is flat fronted and is on a pedastal. It is 86cm high.
- The toilet has front transfer. The toilet is 43cm high

- The shower facility is inside the bath of three bedrooms, in three others it is in a cubicle
- Basin is rounded at the front and is on a vanity unit 86cm high

- We have an enclosed walled garden (shrubbery border and lawn) which is available to sit in.

Mobile phone reception is generally good
There is wireless internet access
We are able to use the front and back doors in the need of evacuation, fire alarm bell rings continuously if evacuation is needed.
If you require more assistance for evacuating please notify us on arrival and we will ensure you are evacuated safely e.g. hearing impairment.
We are happy to take delivery of hired equipment
We are a no smoking building (smoking is allowed in the small garden which has one step 13cms high for entry)
We supply a small drinks fridge in the bedrooms which can be used for medication/food and we can put larger items in our main fridge on request (not available 24 hours).
